Dear SCAAS Members,
Good evening fellow aquarists,
I hope that everyone is doing well in these challenging times.
Unfortunately, we just heard from our speaker for Monday night’s club meeting and due to illness we have had to reschedule it for December 6, We still will go ahead with a brief meeting if people just want to chat and also a discussion on the proposed outdoor sale for November 13.
Our speaker for Monday, December 6, will be Jim Cumming. He maintains a highly active YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/2000notho) with around 700+ videos, highlighting the fish he keeps or has kept. The title of his presentation is “Keeping Cichlids in Northern Ponds: Strategies for Success.” On Monday, November 1, our online meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. A link to the Zoom meeting is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/6164504382.
The presentation ‘Keeping Cichlids in Northern Ponds: Strategies for Success” was created to give tropical fish hobbyists a feasible plan to keep tropical fish outdoors for a substantial period, in a climate that is anything but tropical. I’ve had my outdoor pond up and running for 15 consecutive summers, and even though things can go ‘sideways’ from time to time (no different than in an indoor fish room), the overall result has been very positive. When I tell people that I have an outdoor pond, they immediately think in terms of goldfish, and for larger ponds, Koi. I’ve got nothing against these fish but to put them in my pond would not be in line with my interests, which are mainly cichlids from tropical regions. Of course, these ideas can be applied to any group of fishes. So out to Summer Camp they go!! Finding out what I do, will hopefully inspire you to give it a try. I’ll tell you one thing … do it right and your fishkeeping will be mightily enhanced, and your fish will be the better for it.
I hope to see you on Monday evening,
Ernest
